Phi Alpha Theta is a National Honor Society devoted to promoting the study of History. The society was established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas.
Phi Alpha Theta's goal is to recognize students for outstanding academic achievement and to promote the study of history through research, teaching, and publication.
Since its inception, Phi Alpha Theta has since grown to included over 800 chapters nationwide, more than any other accredited four-year college honor society.
Alpha Iota Omicron is the University of Maine at Farmington's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. The chapter was formally organized on May 8, 2002.
