Computer club meeting:

Minutes 3/8/01

Meeting called to order at 6:30

Members: Seth, Jeremy (by teleconference), Kat, Sara, Will, Ryan, Kayla, 
Matt, Jen

President called meeting to order and volunteered Jen to take notes until a 
new Secretary was elected. Seth read the minutes from the last meeting.

Elections:
	-Seth nominated Kat for treasurer -unanimous vote
	-Jeremy nominated Sara for Secretary -unanimous vote
Non-elected offices
	-Seth nominated Jen to help out with PR -unanimous vote

Seth updated member files for the website

Purchases:
	-The club needs clipboards
		-Seth mentioned Mother Board clipboards
-unanimous vote Seth will pick up clipboards
	-Parts computer
		-needs a hard drive, case and some RAM
			-Seth was asked to look into it last week
			-He priced it at $260 to get it working
			-Unanimous vote Seth will order the parts online
	-extra money in the games budget
		-will and ryan suggested Elite force
-Kat suggested Starcraft upgrade
-Seth suggested Halflife and Diablo
-Seth Priced the games online with books
-vote: unanimous vote to have seth pick up the games
	-Books
		-Jeremy suggested Frontpage 2000 bible book
		-Seth suggested Photoshop classroom in a book
		-Jen will price for next meeting
	-Office supplies:
		-need a chair, no more money in the supplies budget
		-Seth will talk to Ruky about moving some money
-vote: Unanimous to have Seth talk to Ruky about moving money from the trip 
to supplies
	-Parts not for the parts computer
		-Matt suggested DVD-Rom
		-Seth suggested the club could use 2 new hard-drives
		-Vote: unanimous to have Seth price and research these
	-Software
		-Jeremy suggested Photoshop
		-vote: unanimous to price/buy photoshop

Events coming up:
	-Freshmen Orientation
		-Seth volunteered to go
-Jen will contact Maine Agent to see if the club can do the legwork for 
their upcoming event

	-Spring trip:
		-Seth suggested MIT
-open suggestions the Museum of Science, NEU, Suffolk, MS seminar
		-unanimous vote to explore options further
		-date TBA

mini-sessions
	-lots of requests for basic web editing and graphics
		-Seth explored no-cost options through barnes and noble
-unanimous vote to set up small groups for "building your own website using 
CSS" and "introduction to graphic design"

UMF CON:
	-Do we want to offer a network gaming room?
		-no objections
	-unanimous vote to have seth or jeremy contact them

Projects:
-Free Web Editing:
	-Seth reported that the club received a great response
-Seth volunteered to do the first club's site since they have their 
content/ideas ready
-The other clubs are in various stages of content gathering. The club will 
re-visit this issue next week.
-new letter for the non-response clubs to go out this week

-The computer Scrap Heap
	-Seth, Matt and Jen got together this week to salvage 2 more 	computers 
(though Seth was the leader and Matt/Jen were 	emotional support :)
-There are 3 computers on the network (all various abilities/memory)
	-2 are un-networked linux boxes

Budget
	-Seth recapped last year's budget
	-Went through the this year's budget line by line
	-vote: unanimous vote budget ok and complete
-vote: unanimous vote to have Seth and Jeremy represent the club in front of 
Senate

PR
-Jen volunteered to do the info cards for the next meeting
-New posters: everyone liked them

Phase II issues:
	-the saga continues
	-Vote: unanimous to check up on it

Web Site:
	-2 like the new site
	-everyone else liked Seth's old site
	-vote: unanimous to keep Seth's old site

T-shirts:
	-can't even give them away
	-noticed Mainestream has the same logo
		-possible trade for software?
		-should hear back from them this week

Mesda:
-vote: unanimous vote for no show at the tech job fair no one is looking for 
a job
-seminars: seth will get hold of our contact

Constitution:
	-finally! The club has been asked to meet with senate
	-Seth is going as the rep

Inventory:
	-Many thanks to Seth for such a complete inventory

Office Hours:
-the officers will get together before the next meeting and arrange them.

Seth thanked everyone for being so patient with the long meeting and being 
so productive!


Business meeting adjourned at 8:40 with 20 mins of very quick gaming 
following the meeting.
