History Society Constitution

Article I.     Title

1. History Society.



Article II. Purpose

1. Expand academic opportunities at UMF through expansion of and cooperation with the history faculty at UMF.
2. Promote historical relevance and significance through our commitments to historical accuracy.
3. Financially assist outstanding history students through the Miller Scholarship Award.
4. Promote awareness and enjoyment of history.
5. Organize trips to historical conferences, and sites of historical significance with emphasis on making history more than an academic experience.

 

Article III. Membership

1. This organization is open to any UMF student who has paid the Student Activities Fee.



Article IV. Officers

1. President: the president has the following duties:


a. Call all meetings and preside over them;
b. Organize and distribute work;
c. Appoint any needed sub-committees;
d. Administer all elections.


2. Vice President: the vice President has the Following duties:


a. Shall be the President’s assistant and help carry out the duties appointed by the President;
b. Hold meetings or perform duties of the President in the event of absence, resignation, or impeachment.


3. Scribe: the Scribe has the following duties:


a. Keep minutes of all meetings held;
b. Submit minutes as required by Student Senate;
c. Type any required documents;
d. Maintain correspondence with members.


4. Treasurer: the Treasurer has the following duties:


a. Keep all necessary financial records;
b. Inform members of financial transactions;
c. Submit accountabilities as required by Student Senate.


5. Elections


a. Elections for officers will be conducted by the 3rd week of the spring semester and will be concurrent for 1 year.
b. Persons wishing to be officers must have one semester’s prior experience with the History Society.
c. If there are no qualified members then elections will be opened to all members of the History Society.

Article V. Money

1. All funding will be from the Student Activity Fee, allocated by the Student Senate.
2. Any money collected from contributions or fund-raising, above the Student Senate funding, will be deposited into appropriate History Society accounts.

Article VI. Meetings

1. Meetings will be held at least once every two weeks or at the discretion of the Exec. Board.



Article VII. Amendments

1. Any member of the History Society may make a motion for an amendment.
    a. The motion will be voted upon at a meeting.
        i. A 2/3 vote of members is required for a motion to pass.
        ii. A majority vote in the Senate is required for a motion to pass.

Article VIII. Impeachment

1. Any Officer with excessive unexcused absences or who is not fulfilling the duties as outlined in Article IV, to be determined by the Exec. Board, may be impeached.
2. A 2/3 vote of members is required to remove an officer from office.
3. An Impeached officer may not run for an Officer position for a full semester.
4. Student Senate must be notified when an Officer is impeached.
