FEMINISM - JESSICA MANN

"Feminism is the radical notion that women are people," blares a bumper sticker on the back of a car. I see this and I repeat to myself, "feminism is the radical notion that women are people too."

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people too
We are members of every group
Eaters of every food
Especially humble pie

We are working towards this pride
We have been eating since the first woman said
Maybe
Just maybe
An apple would be nice today
A change would be nice
For both of us
This is the mentality of the woman
Of the person too
Of the feminist

I feel a hole clutch my stomach when I hear about injustice
As I’m sure you all do
Because it could have been
any one of us

We are mothers
of every moment we live this life
Every
Thing we make
Is a child of sorts
We are to be celebrated
Celebrate us now, all of us, now

Us tired women, hungry women, dark women, light women, women with differently shaped tongues, women with empty souls, women with full figures, women with child, women with men, women with women, with nature, with circles under our eyes you can trace with your finger

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people too
And we are
As they are
As we are
As people too
