Fall Semester of 2006 Teach-In -a day of education about war. Spring Semester 2004- SEA-Fest was held and was spectacular - check out the details on the SEA-Fest page linked above. Sent a team of 6 to participate in the creation of MESCCA (Maine Students for Climate Change Action), in coordination with the Climate Campaign. Showing of Crack the CIA - a guerrilla documentary on the drug war Showing of a documentary on the war in Iraq Showing of Affluenza - a one-hour television special that explores the high social and environmental costs of materialism and over-consumption. Showing of The War Crimes of Henry Kissinger Attended a Social and Environmental Puppet Cabaret by Portland's Free Space in Portland, ME Ran a table to support the Maine, Jobs, Trade and Democracy Act in the state of Maine: a bill to create a policy group, consisting of representatives of different sectors of the economy, that will do research on and make public the effects of National Free Trade Agreements on Maine's economy. We wrote postcards to our representatives in the house and to the labor committee telling them to support the bill. Ran a table to educate the public about the Bush Administration forcing
the environmental protection agency to lower their standards on mercury
emissions into the environment from power plants. We wrote postcards to
the EPA to tell them our opinions because they have opened up a six-month
public comment initiative. Showing of Bowling for Columbine The Global Living Project members (who biked here from Vermont) gave presentation about how to live low-impact and environmentally friendly lives Matt Schlobohm (J.E.D. Center Worker) gave talk on FTAA Deputy Commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and 18-year state Representative, Paul F. Jacques, gave talk about how Radical Environmentalists can work together with recreational conservationists through politics for a more environmentally friendly future Dinner Social with the International Club Trip to state capitol, Augusta, to protest the War in Iraq. Over 3,000 people in attendance Two Anti-Iraq War drum marches in Farmington Guerilla theatre acting where mock FBI agents came to the university and arrested students in the cafeteria and classrooms for what could have been legitimate violations of the Patriot Act. The event shocked university students into awareness. Later in the day we had a speech and held a discussion about the implications of the Patriot Act.
Signed on to the campaign to get Maine Public Radio to host the news program Democracy Now. We wrote postcards to MPR to help convince them to host the show and therefore keep MPR more balanced to all political ideologies. We worked on the production of a FACES Dignity Dollar (which was a program that showed concern for genetically altered food. |
