Who are we?
-The UMF Cheerleaders have
been a Club Sport here on campus since 2000, so we are still fairly
new on campus. However, even though we are a club sport we run our
club meetings as practices. We have a faculty advisor who is
our coach. We are also a COED squad, so all of you guys out there that are thinking of joining,
please do! Everyone is invited to join, and ideally we would love 14 members next year.
What do we do?
-We are a stunt and dance based team, and we
try to put together at least 3 full-length half time routines per year. We perform at the UMF
Home Basketball games (both women’s and men’s). For
the 2006-2007 season, we plan on going to competitions. Most of all, we love what we do, and
we enjoy practicing and mastering new skills, stunts, dances, and
of course - making new friends. We all have one thing in common: we love the sport, and can’t live without it!
Tryouts?
- Since we are a club
sport, EVERYONE is welcome. We do not hold tryouts or make cuts. We
accept anyone who wants to cheer, even if you've never done it
before. There are no requirements either… you do not have to know
how to tumble, or stunt, or even dance, we welcome people of all
experience levels. Typically, we post our first practice information, and everyone who wants to join may attend. Some decide once they have started classes that they do not have enough time to put into the club, and others decide not to continue for other reasons. Once we have established who is on the team, we go from there. THERE IS NO PRESSURE! Our main goal is to work together and have fun. There is always someone
who is willing to help you with any skills you are having trouble with.
Funding/Uniforms:
-Our team gets our funding from the UMF
Student Senate as well as our own Fund-raisers. We plan on getting
new uniforms this year! If you join, you
will not be expected to buy your own uniform.
Practice Times:
This will be discussed at the beginning of the season. This year practices will be once or twice a week depending on what the squad wants to do. Practices are usually fun, and a great time to get to know each other. We practice new skills, new stunts, and new dances. Come and check us out!
Skills:
-Our stunting skills consist of preps, extensions, libs,
partner stunts, pyramids, twists, basket tosses, throw tosses, three
man highs, arabesques and sequences. We practice motions,
jumps, and tumbling (optional). We also dance and create sideline
cheers. We hope to add to our skills with each coming year.
Remember, if you are new and you do not know what I am talking
about, have no fear! We help each other out.
BOTTOM LINE: We are here to have fun, make friends, and do what we love most!!! GO BEAVERS!!!
